HOW TO USE THE DOMAIN INDEX
Operating Model Debt© is the sun. The seven domains are the planets. Inside each domain the functional areas are moons, on real orbits, closest orbit first. Nothing here is a diagram of a company. It is a map of where the debt sits and what is attached to what.
THE THREE MOVES
- Fly into a domain. Click a planet, or a row in the DOMAINS list. Only that domain's moons appear, so the screen stays quiet.
- Open a functional area. Click a moon. You get the debt layer it sits in, where you see it in real life, and the specific moons in other domains that have to be fixed with it. The camera pulls back just far enough to show those links.
- Start from a symptom. Pick a card in the bar along the bottom. The map rebuilds itself around that one symptom and shows only what causes it, across every domain, with the dependencies between the causes still drawn.
THE REST OF THE CONTROLS
- Tick or untick a domain to take it off the map entirely.
- Highlight a debt layer to see how much of a domain is People, Process, Technology or Data.
- Orbit motion stops the movement if it is distracting in a live session.
- Drag to turn, scroll to zoom, double click empty space to come back out.

A NOTE ON THE CONTENT
- The domains and their functional areas are POLARYN’s own operating model work. The dependency calls and the symptom mappings shown here are illustrative, drawn from patterns we see rather than from any one organisation.
